Stefon and Elia first met in youth orchestra about 15 years ago but it took three more years for Elia to realize that Stefon could be more than just a friend and ask him out on a date. Stefon said yes. They dated and fell in love through three years of school at Santa Rosa Junior College and many string quartet and chamber orchestra rehearsals before Elia transferred to UC Berkeley, which is when, out of some silly misguided notion that first love couldn’t possibly last, they broke up. This lasted all of two weeks before they realized they were both miserable, still in love, and that they would be much happier together. Well, nine years, four stints at different schools (Stefon at UC Davis and Elia at Berkeley and Indiana University), four years of living together and many rafting, sailing, and camping trips later they were more in love and still together when, on a trip to Rome, Stefon proposed in the Piazza Navona.
